TAVERN CLOCK REPLICA
Replica Tavern Clock

MAKER: Your Choice

TOWN:    Your Choice

This is a small replica tavern clock which was made by a hobbyist in around the 1960-70's. I acquired the clock complete with a bespoke movement, pendulum and weight. The hands are those that came with the clock. The movement has some bushing and it is from that observation that the age might be gleaned. The clock was not lacquered, merely stained and varnished.

Since bringing the clock into the workshop I have made a new more appropriately scaled dial with a turned edge moulding and a domed or convex profile. The dial is pegged to the trunk with iron pegs. The side inspection doors were altered to accommodate the new dial. I also cut new ears in the correct style of c.1780.

The movement has been serviced with an element of bushing needed and it is competently made but is not a replica of a classic tavern clock movement. It has rectangular plates, straight pillars which are screwed to the plates and the winding barrel is not grooved. It is perfectly functional  and runs for 7 days +. A new seatboard has been made in oak.

The lacquering and chinoiserie are part finished. The reason is that I have assumed the buyer will want to decide the name and place. When the case and dial are finished the dial will have its gilded edge toned back somewhat and the stark white will be softened.

As a bit of fun the Gallery includes some photomontage of how the dial might look. However this clock whilst visually in the mode of an 18thC clock is very clearly 20thC in all respects once the door is opened and it is not intended to fool anyone as to its age.
