The Source for Tavern , Act of Parliament & English Dial Clocks
Welcome to our first eblast ( that is a newsletter).
Tavernicus was launched about 15 months ago with 70 tavern clocks in its archive and a handful of clocks in the For Sale section with a limited Gallery of photographs. The Forum had a small number of seed entries.
Much has happened; the first clock has been sold, the Clockmakers archive has expanded to 250+ Tavern Clocks and quite a number of visitors have viewed the site. The Forum has grown but the most popular Forum entry is still the original "Clock Jokes" which has had over 800 hits. I look forward to a new clock joke being posted at some stage, please help!!
Tavernicus now advertises in the Horological Journal, Clocks Magazine and the AHS Journal and many owners of Tavern Clocks have been in touch. I have had the privilege of viewing a major private collection and this summer we saw the finest exhibition of Tavern Clocks since the 1978/9 Strike One exhibition, this time put on by Raffety & Walwyn. The exhibition catalogue alone is a collectors' piece. The exhibition included two clocks with door prints instead of the more ususal chinoiserie. This prompted a new line of research and I have now identified the originals of door prints on a number of Tavern Clocks. If you can help with this please get in touch.
Whilst many registrants are happy to surf the site there is a strong reluctance to participate in the Forum , which requires a registration. We tried to abandon the registration process but were then flooded with Russian porn so that was the end of that experiment. Be brave, have a go, it does not bite it is secure and is as anonymous as you want it to be.
The first competition is now up on the Forum and you can win a bottle of Champagne if you go to the National Trust property at Cothele in Cornwall and answer correctly the question posed in the Forum. Good luck.
If you would like to discuss any of the clocks above which are For Sale or perhaps you just need some advice on your clock or about a restoration then please call Martin Gatto on 07778 749223 or book a Skype call. I am always available to discuss any matter connected with Tavern Clocks and undertake free appraisals as often as time permits. A limited number of talks on this subject are given each year which might be of interest.
Tavernicus hopes you enjoy receiving very occasional eblasts (no more than four per annum) but if not please click on Unsubscribe below and we shall never disturb you again.
Warmest thanks to all those who have helped and extended their welcome.
Martin Gatto & The Tavernicus Team.
